Wing Chun - History
Wing Chun compared to some other forms of traditional martial is relatively new and dates back 250 years to the Ching Dynasty.
One of the stories state that Wing Chun originated from the Shaolin Temple and was devised to help develop a system of Kung Fu that could be studied in a relatively short time, where some styles could take 15 even 20 years to master Wing Chun could be studied in half that time. But before the system could be completed the temple was raided and burned to the ground by the Manchu’s.
Ng Mui a nun and one of the only survivors to escape the burning of the temple met and trained a young girl called Wing Chun who in turn shared her knowledge with her husband, Leung Bok Cho.
Through the years Wing Chun, with all its techniques and knowledge, was only passed on to a few select students and it soon became recognised by the name Wing Chun.
The system was eventually passed on to the late Grandmaster Yip Man, recognised as one of the top authorities on Wing Chun and he was also one of the biggest promoters of the system to date.
